Committees

Our Committees are where the important work gets done and helps make the chapter visible to our whole community. As an active member, your participation on a committee is highly valued and critically important to sustaining the viability and relevance of the organization. Below are descriptions of the committees. Please refer to our Events Calendar for specific meeting dates, times and locations.

Education Committee

David Schmidt, Chair

The Education committee works to educate the membership on green building and sustainability in Nevada. Additionally, this committee is responsible for educational outreach - providing resources to Educational Institutions to advance the knowledge of sustainable building principles and practices, USGBC sponsored LEED workshops in Nevada and research and development for new technology in the field of sustainable design and construction.

Existing Building, Operations and Maintenance
Dale Walsh, Chair
The LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED EB: O&M) rating system was developed to provide a benchmark for building owners and operators to measure operations, improvements and maintenance on a consistent scale, with the goal of maximizing operational efficiency while minimizing environmental impacts of existing buildings.

Sustainable Communities

Richard Mcgrew, Co-chair
This subcommittee has been organized with the primary goal to coordinate and educate both the public and private sectors on sustainable design and construction practices in building communities. They are organized into five working groups:

  • Housing Working Group
  • Transportation Working Group
  • Land Use Working Group
  • Sustainable Technologies Working Group
  • Economic Development Working Group

Government Affairs Committee

Kenya Henderson, Chair

Identifies champions within Nevada’s cities, counties and the State and utilities. Approach local governments and utilities through targeted workshops developed with the Education committee. Find advocates and allies within aligned orgs. Have a position statement all orgs can sign (AIA, AGC, Engineers & Unions). Continue monitoring, lobbying and working PUC, CC hearings. Rework the model language, adjust andupdate as required. Adopt and implement a new building code by the end of the legislative session 2012. Support a legislative forum among various advocacy groups with shared interests to develop legislation for the 2012 session.

Benchmarking
Kenya Henderson, Chair
The goal for this subcommittee is to advocate for benchmarking of commercial property. 



Programs/ Membership Committee

Alicia Marasco - Chair

This Committee is responsible for planning and conducting monthly meetings, mixers, tours and other networking events. They work with other committees and members to recruit guest speakers, establish content and meeting activities.  They also recruit and manage membership roles and develop programs to recruit and engage new members.
